KESTECO SA, in cooperation with European leader manufacturers of ATH fillers, offers a full line of ATH (Alumina Trihydrate, Premium Bayer Aluminum Hydroxide) suitable for solid surface casting production. ATH grades are available in different particle sizes and can be used in a wide range of polymers at processing temperatures below 220 C.
ATH fillers are non-toxic, halogen free, chemically inert and have low abrasiveness. Furthermore ATH fillers are flame resistant, and smoke suppressive. These advantages derive from the following mechanism: at about 220 C ATH begins to decompose endothermically releasing approximately 35% of its weight as water vapor:
Al2O3 * 3H20 + HEAT ==> Al2O3 + 3 H2O
Alumina Trihydrate ATH acts as heat sink thereby retarding pyrolysis and reducing the burning rate. The water vapor released has an effect of diluting combustion gases and toxic fumes.
Silane treated grades permit not only higher filler loadings but also resistance to blushing and bleaching effect. Therefore are strongly recommended for the manufacturing of kitchen sinks, wash basins and bath tubs especially for the darker colors.
